F1 | Porsche, Steiner: “Like other manufacturers we participate in FIA meetings”
With the new rules on power units expected after 2020, the Stuttgart company could decide to return to Formula One
With the regulatory change, at power unit level, expected after 2020, some car manufacturers could decide to enter the Formula One scene.
One of these could be Porsche, which in the past in Circus he had experience both as a team driver (from 1957 to 1962) and as an engineer (McLaren and Footwork).
The German company from Stuttgart has already outlined its sporting path for the next two years, abandoning the WEC at the end of 2018 to face the challenge of Formula E starting from 2019.
"Like other manufacturers, at the invitation of the FIA we participate in discussions on future engine projects – said Michael Steiner, head of Porsche research and development, in an interview with Car engine and sport - For the future we need all our resources. The large team we have built in LMP1 is highly motivated and represents a huge wealth of knowledge. However, we are currently not working on an F1 engine, but on a high efficiency engine".
