F1 | Mercedes, Hamilton praises the team: "We have never been so strong"
"Valtteri drove great, deserving the victory," added the English champion
Lewis Hamilton completed Mercedes' fourth consecutive one-two at the start of the world championship. However, the English champion lost the championship lead to his teammate, now ahead of that extra point gained with the fastest lap in Melbourne. For the #44 a race always behind Bottas, and in the final he tried to worry him without however having any negative effect on the Finn.
“This is a huge achievement for the team – Hamilton said. We have never been stronger and it all comes down to hard team work: both Valtteri and I are going beyond what the car has to offer, as are the guys at the pit stops, the engineers and the men in the factory. We have never reached this level, I am really grateful for everyone's hard work. Baku is not my favorite track, it has always been difficult for me, today I came close to winning, but not enough: I didn't do well in qualifying and today I was a bit too cautious at the start. The VSC damaged me and this made the comeback difficult. Valtteri drove great and deserved the victory, it was fantastic how the team allowed us to fight, I will work even harder in view of Barcelona."
