F1 | McLaren, Ricciardo disaster: “I was competitive for four laps”

It went badly for Daniel Ricciardo, thirteenth in Istanbul after a race in total suffering. Having started last due to having replaced the power unit, he was unable even for a moment to remain glued to Sainz, alongside him on the starting grid, opting for a strategy that in the end he absolutely did not pay off. A race and weekend to forget for the McLaren driver, who was dry after the two good races in Monza and Sochi.

“We were competitive for maybe four laps – Ricciardo said. At the beginning we struggled with the front, so it was difficult to stay close to the others and so we went to the pits to change tyres. After that I didn't have much rear grip and I was struggling again. So I managed to do those four laps in which the pace was good and I could push, I hoped it would last a little longer but the rear abandoned me again and in the last ten laps I tried to resist as much as possible. That strategy was our best chance, but completely unpredictable. I know that others have gone longer, there are those who have never even returned to the pits. We will try to analyze the match."
