F1 | Ferrari, Vettel: “Our pace was good, but we must continue to grow”

Sebastian Vettel he finished the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the fourth round of the 2019 Formula One World Championship, in third place. The German, who repeated the placing achieved two weeks ago in Shanghai in Baku, closed the Azerbaijani race behind the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.

Vettel, commenting on the race, said: “Racing today was fun. I liked the first stint less because I couldn't get the tires to work, and I didn't have the grip we would have expected. We weren't fast and the performance was inconsistent because I damaged the tires trying to get them up to temperature and then, once they were finally warm, they still didn't offer the expected performance because they were damaged".

"After the pit stop I really started to get into the rhythm and I enjoyed it because I felt the car was in full control and I felt free to push, even if it wasn't enough to put pressure on our rivals. – underlined the four-time world champion -. After the restart from the Virtual Safety Car I recorded my best lap and managed to get a second behind Max Verstappen. I think at that point he understood that he wouldn't be able to attack me and so in the last laps I was also able to lower the pace a little".

Concluding his discussion he added: “Our pace was good today but it's still not enough. Everyone in the team is working at their maximum and for this reason I am confident. I believe in this team and I know that we can grow: we have a good car but we can't put it in a position to obtain the results it can achieve. It's like a Rubik's cube, you have to put everything together. We have a lot of smart people on the team who can solve the puzzle in less than two minutes, but in this case the cube is a little bigger".
