F1 | Coulthard comments on Red Bull's switch to the Honda engine

2019 will be a year of changes at Red Bull. And the crossroads of these changes will, ironically, be Renault. The French team has in fact hired Daniel Ricciardo for 2019, the year from which he will no longer be the official engine supplier of the Austrian team.

Red Bull will, as is known, switch to the Honda engine, criticized in recent seasons by McLaren but considered reliable thanks to the progress of the Japanese company's hybrid V6. Commenting on the passage is David Coulthard, now a television commentator: “I think that, given the relationship with Renault and the uncertainty about what could happen after 2020, there is no negative aspect for Red Bull. Renault has a great history in Formula 1, but I don't think they are too happy to see Red Bull win as they are trying to build and bring success to their own team. Nobody knows what the future holds, but if everyone uses the same ingredients the result is the same. Consequently, if you want to achieve a different result, you have to change something in the process."

Honda engine which, it is worth remembering, is the heart of the Toro Rosso, little sister of Red Bull. Definitely an advantage, as Coulthard underlines: “When information comes from a competing team it is never easy to analyze it. Thanks to Toro Rosso they will have better data available and will know with greater certainty what the power level is with which they are competing and will be able to compare with Renault."
