F1 | Alpine, Fernando Alonso is first of the others in FP2

The Spaniard sets the fourth best time at Paul Ricard, but his race pace also seems promising

F1 | Alpine, Fernando Alonso is first of the others in FP2

Fernando Alonso had an excellent Friday, winning the "first of the rest" position in FP2. In fact, the Spaniard set the fourth best time at Paul Ricard, four tenths behind leader Max Verstappen. The two-time world champion's Alpine already seemed to be competitive in the first free practice session, where Alonso finished with the seventh best time. The two good results in Monaco and Baku arrived, according to Fernando, despite the terrible levels of competitiveness of the French team, while here at home Alpine seems to be able to play for important positions: Alonso himself expected teams like Ferrari and Aston Martin they would return to their usual positions here at Paul Ricard. The weekend on French soil could prove full of opportunities for the Asturian.

F1 | Analysis of free practice in France: Alpine and Alonso in great shape, Ferrari question mark

"The conditions were quite complicated today, with the strong wind and high temperatures of the asphalt, but I think we can be quite satisfied with how we managed our Friday free practice – commented Alonso – we tested some components in FP1 and then followed our program in FP2, clocking up some kilometers on the track. We will analyze all the data this evening, but I think that, up to now, we have shown ourselves to be quite competitive, we will see how it goes tomorrow".
