F1 | Alfa Romeo, Vasseur: “In 2021 we did not capitalize on our potential”

Alfa Romeo Sauber's season was disappointing, with a final eighth place in the Constructors' standings and only thirteen points collected, ten from Raikkonen and three from Giovinazzi. Frederic Vasseur, while the team is preparing to completely change its face with the arrival of Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou, has returned to talking about 2021, asserting how the team has not been able to capitalize on the progress made compared to 2020.

In short, the Swiss team could have achieved much more, with the French team principal judging the season as positive only in terms of progress and performance, but terrible in terms of results.

“The feeling about 2021 is very strange because in terms of pure performance we did very well, we made a big step forward compared to 2020, we are probably the team that has improved the most - Vasseur's words as reported by Crash.net On the other hand, however, we wasted many opportunities to get a result and in the end the points lost were too many. It's bad because in the end it's the results that really count. This is why we as a team are very frustrated. We have had too many ups and downs, often it was a tenth that made the positive or negative difference. Halfway through the season we were almost at the bottom, then we went back higher. If I have to give an opinion, I would say that 2021 was a good year in terms of performances and a bad one in terms of results."
