F1 | Alfa Romeo, Bottas makes a comeback in the race: "We need to work on qualifying"

Valtteri Bottas climbs from fourteenth to tenth position in the Canadian Grand Prix. Excellent comeback for him who, in reality, lost ninth position, which he had been holding on to, right on the finish line. In reality the Finn was tenth on the track, and Lance Stroll overtook in the sprint right at the final corner, when he was already waving the checkered flag. Bottas would thus have remained outside the points, but Norris was actually penalized, and therefore Alfa Romeo managed to snatch a point. A result that gives confidence to the Hinwil team, after the performances in Barcelona.

“I'm satisfied with our race: I gained four positions, it's always nice when it happens, especially when you then reach the top 10, our goal since the beginning of the weekend. It could have been a ninth place, but my tires were gone at the end of the race and Lance caught me right at the finish line – said Valtteri – however, I think it was still an excellent race with a good strategy; since Monaco we have continued to improve, proof of the hard work that the whole team is doing, from the garage to Hinwil. Even if we only take home one point, it is still a reward and a motivation to continue to improve. Now it is important to continue in this direction, improving performance in qualifying. There are still steps we need to take, but I'm confident we can do it."

Totally different race for Zhou Guanyu, who remains glued to the back. At the finish line he is sixteenth, lapped.

“We knew the race would be difficult, considering our starting position, but I still believed we could do it. Unfortunately, we didn't succeed. After the Safety Car came back, I thought we could fight: we started with the mediums, and they were doing quite well. Unfortunately it didn't go as we wanted, and after the last pit stop I couldn't do much. There is no doubt, we need to improve, focus on returning to the good performances we have already shown, and do it in time for Spielberg. We know that Sprint Race weekends always offer surprises, and if we play our cards well we could return to the top ten."
