Caterham, a good Friday in Japan for Kovalainen and Petrov

A good Friday of testing for Caterham at the Japanese F1 GP. Heikki Kovalainen ended the day with the 18th fastest time ahead of his teammate, Vitaly Petrov.

Heikki Kovalainen – 18th: “The second session was a good session for me. Having missed Free Practice 1 we had a lot to do in the afternoon and we completed everything that was planned. In the first runs on the hard tires we had to work hard to find a decent balance but we made some changes that took us in the right direction. With the soft tires the car performed much better, it immediately seemed balanced and the levels of degradation and balance on long runs were quite manageable. We finished with a weather that protected us from those following us, so overall it was a positive day."

Vitaly Petrov – 19th: “I arrived in Japan with a cold and therefore had to skip yesterday's work on the track. I felt better today but it's good to have done a lot of work in the car today. We completed a lot of laps, working on the aerodynamics and testing some new components in the morning and focusing on the tires in Free Practice 2. On the last lap of the afternoon session I went out at the first corner after a problem with the rear wing. We will carefully analyze what happened to make sure it doesn't happen again but other than that it was an OK Friday here in Japan. At the end of the day the car was much improved and very consistent on both tire compounds. Having completed the objectives for FP1 and FP2 we have collected a lot of data that the boys will analyze this evening and we think we are in a good position for the rest of the weekend."
