Thursday statements

Esteban Ocon (Manor): «Thank you for the warm welcome! It's a great opportunity for me to be here and I want to thank Mercedes, Renault and Manor. It's great to be able to start here at Spa, it's a track I know and I know it will help me immediately gain confidence with the speed of the car. We'll see, I can't wait and I feel ready. I feel like I had the best preparation I could have received. The goal is to score points, obviously."

Romain Grosjean (Haas): «The last races before the summer break did not go as planned. There are different areas where we are still working and the things to test are different. I think this break has helped everyone to reset their heads a bit, to think more calmly about what to do, with the hope of being able to repeat what we did at the beginning of the year. This is a year of learning for us, however we are looking more at getting closer to the McLarens than protecting ourselves from the Renaults."

Daniil Kvyat (Red Bull): «The return from the summer was OK for me, it's nice to be able to come back here and do my job, drive as I am capable of doing. Nothing special happened, that's all. Obviously I don't know how it will go here, I can't predict the future. We will go out on track with the car and only then will we see how far we can go, expressing its full potential. This is all I know how to do."

Fernando Alonso (McLaren): «I agree with Yusuke Hasegawa on the fact that Honda has made enormous steps compared to twelve months ago, as you may have noticed. We have taken a progressive step that can be counted in minutes, not even seconds, so we are certainly in a better position. Here we have brought some updates so we are looking forward to the weekend with confidence. For me, however, it's time to look to 2017, this year there is no hope for the title."

Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing): «This is my home track and even though I haven't ridden there many times I feel it close to me. And then I think there will be a lot of fans who will come. It was nice to be able to overtake the Ferraris in the constructors' championship, now we want to maintain the advantage and try to close the one on the Mercedes. We will work very well in terms of set-up and then see if the horsepower of our engine will be sufficient. Let's hope so".

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes): «First of all, good afternoon, I expected to see more tanned people! I'm happy for the summer break, I needed it to take some time, as did the Team. And probably like the rest of the paddock. I think everyone is now excited to get back to racing. We will change the engine already here, so I will try to minimize the effects on Sunday during the race. How does knowing that I could win my 50th GP affect me? Something surreal, but I don't want to think about it too much and I prefer to focus on giving my best in every moment."
