Ferrari, statistics in China: Schumacher's last seal in Formula 1

After five years the formula 1 go back to Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix. We have reached the seventeenth edition of the race on the Asian track built by Hermann Tilke, using for the first time in 2004. On that occasion the winner was Rubens Barrichello with the Ferrari, in what it was the first of only four victories by the Scuderia del Cavallino, all obtained with different drivers: the other three were Michael Schumacher in 2006, to his last career success (memorable overtaking Fisichella on the curb, ed.), Kimi Raikkonen in 2007, in that race that reopened the world championship won by Iceman, and Alonso in 2013, to his penultimate statement so far.

Michael Schumacher overtaking Giancarlo Fisichella in China in 2006

Below, numbers, statistics and curiosities offered to us by Ferrari for the Chinese Grand Prix.

6. The rearmost position on the starting grid from which the Chinese Grand Prix was won. It happened twice: the first to achieve the feat was Michael Schumacher with the Ferrari 248 F1 in 2006. The German achieved his last victory in Formula 1 on that occasion. The second to triumph from sixth place was Daniel Ricciardo in 2018 with Red Bull.

14. The drivers registered for the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix who were also at the start in the last edition held, in 2019. The debutants in Shanghai are Guanyu Zhou, the first Chinese to take part in the home race, Oscar Piastri, Yuki Tsunoda and Logan Sargeant. Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso were not there in 2019 but had raced in Shanghai in previous years. However, there are only five drivers who race in the same team as five years ago: Charles Leclerc in Ferrari, Max Verstappen in Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes, Lando Norris in McLaren and Kevin Magnussen in Haas.

15. The average hours a giant panda spends eating each day. This animal, symbol of China, weighs between 70 and 120 kg and is 120 to 190 centimeters long. In terms of size, therefore, it is a bear, with which it also has paws in common. Its diet, however, differs radically from that of the plantigrade widespread especially in America and Europe, since its diet is predominantly, if not exclusively, herbivorous. The other fundamental difference is represented by hibernation, which the panda does not need, even due to the more temperate environment in which it lives.

16. The districts of the city of Shanghai, which has a total of 25 million inhabitants. The Shanghai International Circuit is located in the Jiading district, home to 2 million people. Historically, Jiading was a separate municipality until it came under the administration of Shanghai in 1958.

717. The overtakings completed in the 16 Chinese Grands Prix held so far. The edition with the highest number of position changes remains that of 2016 with 128, while the one that had the fewest was that of 2008 with just nine. The average number of overtakings in the race is 45.
