Official: the Baku event will be called the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Having entered the calendar in the season which ended a few weeks ago with the name of the European Grand Prix, making all fans turn up their noses a bit given the precise geographical location, from 2017 the race which takes place in the streets of Baku will be called Gran Azerbaijan Prize. This change was announced by Arif Rahimov, promoter of the Azerbaijani event.

“Our event will be called the Azerbaijan Grand Prix – he declared Rahimov – For the first edition of our race we wanted to identify our country in Europe, to demonstrate our commitment and our openness towards tourism".

"Now we believe it's time to rename our weekend with its own wording – Rahimov continued - After this year's success, Formula One fans have discovered our European mentality. Finally we can associate our race with the name of our country".
