Schumacher returns to F1 with Mercedes: announcement today

Michael Schumacher's return to Formula 1 will be confirmed today in a press conference called by Mercedes Grand Prix. For weeks there has been talk of a possible agreement between the German and the newly formed official Stella team which took over Brawn GP at the end of the season.

Schumacher will therefore join Nico Rosberg in 2010 with a sensational return after his decision to retire at the end of 2006.

The opportunity had already arisen for the German to return to the wheel this summer when Ferrari offered him the opportunity to replace the injured Felipe Massa. However, neck problems, the result of various motorbike accidents, prevented the seven-time world champion from racing in place of the Brazilian.

However, the disappointment at the missed opportunity and his desire to return to Formula 1 convinced Schumacher to accept Mercedes' offer.
