Sauber: “Mercedes now in the crosshairs”

Kobayashi: "We can repeat ourselves in Hungary too"

The Swiss team is very strong after the 4th and 6th place at the German GP: it is now sixth in the championship and aiming for fifth place with Mercedes
Sauber: “Mercedes now in the crosshairs”

Sauber, thanks also to the fourth and sixth place of its drivers at the German GP, has so far scored 80 points in the first half of the season, 36 points more than in the 2011 season and now aims to reach a giant like Mercedes in the standings , already next Sunday at the Hungarian GP.

Team boss Peter Sauber explains the objective of the Hinwil team, which is now sixth in the Constructors' standings. “We are 25 points away from fifth place, it doesn't matter who is in front of us, we must always concentrate on attacking the opponent”, the patrol of the Swiss team told the Swiss newspaper Blick. But he acknowledged it's a David versus Goliath style fight: “We are realistic and know that Mercedes is a great opponent for a small private team”. Blick recalled that the Mercedes duo of Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg earn around 30 million euros, compared to the top 2 million earned by Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez.

But this situation Kamui Kobayashi, fourth in Hockenheim, thinks big and wants to repeat the splendid German race: “In the past our car hasn't been brilliant on tracks like the Hungaroring, but with this year's car it's different. The C31 has proven to be fast on twisty tracks, so I believe we can be strong on that circuit too. We've struggled a bit in the rain recently, but the weather in Hungary has always been excellent and I'm looking forward to what I hope will be a dry and warm race.", explained the Japanese. “The Hungarian Grand Prix is the last race before the summer break and therefore it is particularly important to do well. If you get a good result then you can rest in the break much more serene and I think that after our performance in Hockenheim we have every possibility to manage such a result.", concluded the Japanese. Like it or not, Sauber is a big team and from now on the Swiss team will have to be taken into account.
