Sauber: Kobayashi is ready to be team leader

Peter Sauber has admitted that his ideal driver line-up consists of a promising young driver and an experienced driver. For the moment Peter can be satisfied since he has the young Kobayashi and the veteran Nick Heidfeld who has 169 grands prix behind him in his team. But starting next year the situation will change radically.

Sauber recently formalized the agreement with the Mexican sponsor Telmex and the hiring of GP2 driver Sergio Perez: “We believe that Sergio has great potential and is very fast. But of course we have no guarantees that this will happen” commented Peter Sauber.

During an interview for the Swiss newspaper Blick Sauber was asked if it wasn't too big a risk to form a team with two young drivers for next year. Sauber responded by saying: “..it would be better to always have an experienced driver alongside a younger one but Kobayashi has matured a lot and next year he will be able to take on the role of team leader”.
