Sainz JR defends McLaren: “They will be competitive again in a short time”

Ferrari, thanks to Vettel's victory in Malaysia and the podium in Australia, broke up in two races the Alonso era behind us. This is what the Italian newspapers clearly implied on Monday, after the Sepang race. There are many, and not just fans of the category, who think that the Iberian is seriously eating his hands looking at the objectives that Ferrari has managed to achieve in just two races. Yet there are those who are also convinced that McLaren Honda's situation is not not even that bad how it is received by viewers at home.

After the disappointing race in Australia, in Malaysia, Alonso, in his first race after more than a month's stop, was forced to retire due to an engine problem. The driver from Oviedo, eliminated during qualifying in Q1, until the wall called him back to the pits for an early stop, managed to extricate himself well at the start, reaching the points zone, in ninth position: “Fernando and Jenson are two highly experienced drivers and I am sure that well before the end of the season they will bring their McLaren to fight for podium positions,” commented Daniel Ricciardo interviewed by colleagues from El Mundo Deportivo.

Another driver, convinced of the return of the English team, is a boy very close to Alonso, and not only due to his nationality: “Fernando is at the beginning of the reconstruction of a large project. I am convinced that McLaren will make giant strides in terms of development and will get closer to the top teams well before what one might expect,” commented Carlos Sainz JR to Marca sports.
