Rosberg: “It was a fantastic victory. A very special day for me and the team”

Nico Rosberg says it is still too early to start thinking about the 2013 Formula 1 title, despite his second victory of the season in the British Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver benefited from the problems affecting his teammate Lewis Hamilton and the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel - who retired due to a gearbox problem - by taking his second victory in the last three races, having also won in Monaco .

Today's result put Rosberg 50 points behind Vettel in the standings.

Rosberg is very pleased with the progress Mercedes has made with its tire management problems, but reckons it is too early to think about the championship.

“I don't want to talk about it again,” Rosberg said when asked about his championship hopes.

“The team has already done a fantastic job over the winter with such a fast car in qualifying, and now we are progressing with tire management and it is giving us a car fast enough to win races.”

Rosberg stated that his Mercedes was at least as fast as the Red Bull, and admitted that the victory was very special for him.

“It's fantastic, it's a very, very special day. What makes it more special is that our factory is nearby,” he said.

“The team did a fantastic job. We have some nice momentum at the moment.”

“We are making steady progress. We are very fast in qualifying and we are always faster in the race. I think we also had the fastest car in the race today.”

The German said he felt sad for teammate Hamilton, who suffered a tire failure while leading the race from pole.

“I feel sorry for Lewis, it would have been a great race for him in front of his home crowd.”
