Red Bull, Vettel and Webber ahead of everyone on Friday in Suzuka

World championship leader Mark Webber downplayed the importance of Friday's Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix. The Australian from Red Bull finished both sessions behind teammate Sebastian Vettel but despite a gap of almost four tenths he didn't say he was worried.

“I'm not usually fighting on Fridays,” Webber said. “It was a reasonable day for us and we know that the others have the potential to become competitive again. So, as usual, Friday's times don't lead to the world championship, we have to work well on Sunday" explained Webber.

“The balance is pretty good, honestly. It's a circuit with many types of corners and so you can't have everything, you need to work on priorities and what improves times, and that's what we'll do tonight. The car was fast straight away, the guys did a good job and it ran without problems, so good work by the team."

Vettel also said he was happy with his day of testing: "It was a problem-free Friday, this is the most important thing, especially on a track like this where it is necessary to have a rhythm between the fast corners in succession" he explained Vettel. “It was important not to have reliability problems today. The pace was also good."
