Petrov on the future: “SMP Racing could be interested in Formula One”

SMP Racing could soon become part of the world of Formula One, according to Vitaly Petrov.

The former Renault and Caterham driver, currently involved with the Russian team in the WEC, explained that the SMP program is evaluating various possibilities for its future and that Formula One is certainly a viable path. SMP Racing is currently competing in the World Endurance Championship with an official LMP2 program and Vitaly Petrov will be part of their line-up for next season. However, the former Caterham driver wanted to clarify that the absolute priority at the moment is to do well in Endurance.

Here is Vitaly Petrov's interview with motorsport.com: “SMP Racing has a lot of ideas for the future and Formula One is one of them. We are currently focused on LMP2 as we want to win the championship, but we are certainly starting to put together some options for the future. LMP1 and Formula One would be in line with the team's expectations and would certainly be two great adventures for a program that is increasingly gaining ground in the world of motorsport. We'll see what the future holds for us."

“The arrival of Sochi in the Circus has certainly launched racing in Russia and we are happy about that” he concluded.
