Nick Heidfeld is under scrutiny by Renault
Nick Heidfeld is increasingly being monitored by the Lotus Renault team, where he is competing this season in Formula 1 as a replacement for the injured Robert Kubica.
It seems that Eric Boullier considers Heidfeld's performances in the first six games to be subdued, and is considering Romain Grosjean as a replacement.
Speed Week in Germany reports a statement from the Lotus Renault team principal that Nick's season so far “has been good, but not good enough. Nick started with Petrov's pace, but then his performance is dropping more and more. I need to understand what Nick's problems are. On Sundays, however, things go very well.”
To L'Equipe, Boullier said that the Renault team is missing leadership like that of Kubica: “Robert quickly put himself in a leadership role for us. He is very demanding and he knows well what he wants from the team. If he sees that things aren't right he bangs his fists on the table. But Robert can't be here now.”
The other Renault driver, Vitaly Petrov, seems safe thanks to his rich sponsors, but Boullier hinted that the Russian cannot be considered safe either: “Vitaly needed someone to tell him what time he has to be at the circuit in the morning , so that he is not late for meetings, how to organize his day and how to behave off the track." In short, it seems that the Russian cannot aspire to the still vacant role of leader.
