F1 | Boullier on Alonso: “The title in 2012? We needed more confidence in the team"

Interviewed on the official Formula 1 podcast, “Beyond the Grid”, Eric boullier he spoke about Fernando Alonso and the wasted World Cup opportunities in 2010 and 2012, underlining how the Spaniard paid dearly for his lack of confidence in the team, especially in the second case. According to the French Manager, the two-time World Champion was unable to extract the maximum potential from the team, an aspect which led him not to win the direct comparison with Sebastian Vettel , Red Bull.

“He certainly could have won one more title,” said Eric Boullier. “Obviously I know Fernando very well and in 2010, in Abu Dhabi, it was our car that prevented him from becoming World Champion. For them it was a great opportunity that didn't come to fruition. There was another occasion, I think in 2012, but I think at that moment there was a lack of confidence in the team. I think Fernando knows this."

“Sometimes we expect the pilot to reassure people and encourage them to feel safer,” he continued. “I know that in Ferrari the pressure is very high and in some ways the driver is the only one who can make things a little calmer. More trust was needed."
