Mercedes, Wolff: “We are not involved in any discussions for the renewal of the German GP”
The German appointment would be at risk for 2017
The future of the German Grand Prix is still to be written. With the 2016 edition of the German event held at the end of July in Hockenheim, in 2017 the premier class of motorsport should be hosted by the Nurburgring, based on the alternation agreement between the two tracks signed in the past.
But never as in this case would the conditional be a must, as the organizers who manage the Nurburgring facility would not have the necessary liquidity to guarantee Bernie Ecclestone to host the event next year. Problem, the economic one, which also concerns Hockenheim.
Given the difficulties encountered by both racetracks, word had spread of financial help from Mercedes to safeguard the home race for next season. But when asked specifically, Toto Wolff denied this possibility.
"It is Ecclestone's job to negotiate the contract with the various racetracks, not ours - the note from the Stella team principal – We are not involved in any discussions regarding the renewal of the German Grand Prix. This is obviously an important race for us, I don't know if it will disappear from the calendar but there is nothing we can do".
