McLaren, Sam Michael: “We're not worried about the rain at Interlagos, we'll aim for victory”

McLaren has no concerns about its wet performance should rain arrive during the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have had mixed fortunes in wet conditions so far this year, so there are no guarantees about the car's speed in wet weather.

Hamilton was fastest in both practice sessions on Friday.

McLaren sporting director Sam Michael said the team has a good level of confidence about its potential in the wet.

“Last time in the wet we were quite fast, that's our data point,” Michael said. “So, we changed two or three things and after those changes hopefully we will be faster in those conditions.”

“But until you run it in the wet you don't know the real potential.”

Asked what conditions the team would prefer to race in, Michael said: “I don't mind, to be honest, I'm quite neutral.”

Although the focus for media and fans this weekend is the title fight between Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso, for McLaren the objective is second place in the constructors' championship.

“Our goal this weekend is to finish first and second, because if we finish first and second we will be second in the constructors' championship, no matter what happens to anyone else,” Michael said.

“If we are able to achieve this we will just have to wait. Both riders were very competitive this morning, but we will try to win and finish second.”
