Lotus, Kimi Raikkonen: “We hope we can score more points than Fernando”

Kimi Raikkonen believes he can still get a good result in the Japanese Grand Prix to keep himself in contention for the championship, despite a difficult opening day in free practice.

The Lotus driver was unable to complete his work program due to two stops for technical reasons.

Despite the two setbacks, Raikkonen thinks Lotus is in better form than it has been in recent races, and this gives him confidence that it can catch up in the championship on leader Fernando Alonso.

“Hopefully we can score more points than Fernando,” Raikkonen said.

Although disappointed with today's problems, Raikkonen said he is looking on the bright side about the potential for the weekend.

“It certainly doesn't help, we lost a lot of time on the track,” he explained.

“It's good that it happened today and not tomorrow morning. I think we are closer to a higher place on the grid than in the last few races, so hopefully this is a good sign.”

He then added: “The car isn't bad at all. We just need to fix some things.”

The Finn is 14th while his teammate Romain Grosjean finished sixth.
