Kubica: “Replicating the good result in Monaco is not a given in Singapore”

The days that separate the Formula 1 drivers from the first free practices on the Singapore GP circuit can literally be counted on one hand. The drivers are excited and can't wait to get on the track, starting with Robert Kubica, Renault's driver, who loves street circuits and who hopes to repeat the good performance in Monaco even if he doesn't take anything for granted...

How do you prepare for the Singapore race?

Robert Kubica: “The Singapore race is one of the most difficult of the year: the track is complex and you are always under pressure from the start to the end of the race, you always have to control your angles in the corners because you risk touching the walls and the only place where you can breathe a sigh of relief it's the finishing straight.

More than anything we have to get used to working late, perhaps until the next morning and instead waking up in the afternoon: after doing it for a while you don't feel the effects even if going back to our normal hours is rather strange".

You like citizens. Are you eager to run?

Robert Kubica: “Yes, there are many bumps, curbs and parts of the track where you don't have a 1% margin of error because the walls are very close, especially in the last sector. I've always liked racing in Singapore because the track is challenging."

What should we focus on in terms of set-up?

Robert Kubica: “The aerodynamic part is the most important and the car must be able to achieve the greatest percentage of grip to be agile in the numerous corners and, above all since it is a temporary circuit, the car to make the most of all its qualities must reach this percentage even in very short timescales."

You had a great weekend in Monte Carlo. Do you hope to repeat the performance?

Robert Kubica: “We have to be very careful not to take anything for granted. Singapore is the track most similar to Monaco in terms of track characteristics, but we raced in the Principality more than four months ago and things change very quickly in F1.

I will approach this event as usual: we are fighting with very competitive and very strong cars and we must maintain the position on our direct rivals in the championship. There are cars like Williams that have really recovered in these last few races and we have to see how things go, but I can't hide the fact that I would like to have another weekend like the one in Monaco."
