Formula 1 | Verstappen unstoppable: “Grand Chelem” in the Spanish GP

Formula 1 GP Spain – Pole position, fastest lap and victory for Max Verstappen in the last Spanish Grand Prix, the seventh round of the 2023 Formula 1 world championship. At the end of a literally dominated weekend, starting from free practice on Friday morning, the Dutchman guaranteed the fifth record of the season, the 41st of his career in Formula 1, once again confirming himself as the main favorite to win this year's championship.

The Dutchman, in the lead from the first corner, managed to impose an "asphyxiating" pace on the race right from the first lap, leaving very little room for maneuver to his opponents, especially the Mercedes, making the most of the excellent work done by the team throughout the entire weekend.

In the standings, thanks to Sergio Perez's fourth place and Fernando Alonso's seventh, the two-time world champion further extends his lead in the standings and guarantees himself an important safety margin for the remainder of this season. Second position for a superb Lewis Hamilton, who did well to overtake Carlos Sainz (5th) in the early stages of the race, followed by the other Mercedes of George Russell, confirming the great strides made by the W14 thanks to the technical package presented in Monaco, and precisely to Perez, good at moving up the rankings after yesterday's terrible qualifying. Fifth place for the aforementioned Sainz, fast with soft tires but suffering with wear in the second half of the race, closely followed by Lance Stroll, Alonso and Esteban Ocon.

Completing the ranking of the top ten are Guanyu Zhou and Pierre Gasly. The latter, at the end of a hard-fought race, managed to keep the other Ferrari of Charles Leclerc behind him, who started from the pit lane but was never able to show a pace worthy of the very first positions. A Sunday that is still not entirely positive for Ferrari, which will have to work to perfect the package presented during this weekend in Spain. The same goes for Aston Martin, never really able to compete for positions with the Mercedes of Hamilton and Russell. Next meeting in two weeks in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix, another weekend where Red Bull - thanks to the characteristics of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve - could open up the gap on its opponents, definitively launching towards the conquest of world titles.
