Formula 1 | Tost launches the idea: “Show on the track? We reduce the aerodynamic load by 50%”

In a chat given to the columns of Autosport, Fraz Tost spoke about the spectacle on the track and the solutions currently being studied by Liberty Media, revealing how the right move for the future of the category could be to reduce the aerodynamic load levels of the 50%. A reduction of this type, in fact, would make the cars more nervous and would help the drivers to drive in the slipstream, thus favoring overtaking when braking.

Here are the words of Franz Tost: “We have a fairly high level of downforce and this allows the riders to tackle the corners with a lot of speed. In these conditions it is impossible to overtake, given that a lot of dirty air is generated and the braking distance is practically zero."

“FIA, FOM and all the people responsible for this, including Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds, know exactly what to do, which is to drastically reduce the downforce”, he added. “Personally I would reduce it by 40/50%, so as to make the cars more unstable when cornering”.

“These cars are very fast on the straight and a modification of this type would allow the drivers to attack under braking. On paper it's a simple regulation to study, you just have to want it"he concluded.
