The work of the staff on the regulations that will come into force starting from the 2021 season is proceeding quickly. According to what was declared by Auto Motor Und Sport yesterday, the teams have found some fixed points regarding the future of Formula 1, not only in technical terms, but also as a division of income and a ceiling on expenses to level the performance of the various cars.

In fact, at a meeting to be held in Geneva this week, FIA and Liberty Media will confirm the expense cap at 175 million dollars, effectively launching a policy strongly supported by US managers. All this, of course, will come into force from 2021, which is why the top teams will have the opportunity to develop with greater strength by that date (Liberty expects a leveling by 2023/2024. ed.).

As regards the technical part, however, the objective will be to continue on the path started during the last season, promoting slipstream driving and wheel-to-wheel duels between the drivers. All of this, obviously, seasoned with a regulation that favors the return of the center of the group towards the top of the standings.

Auto Motor Und Sport, in this sense, reveals that the new cars will be equipped with a simpler front wing, a double-level rear wing and small fenders above the front wheels. It should be noted that there will also be a bottom equipped with tunnels, which would produce the much talked about ground effect.

"Ideally we would have liked to insert the expense cap a year earlier, precisely in 2020, but unfortunately it didn't work", said Ross Brawn. “We cannot expect a completely different order in 2020, as the top teams will have the chance to develop with greater possibilities before that date. Within a couple of seasons, however, the levels at stake should level out."

On the possibility of having all the same cars he added: “I looked at all the current cars in neutral colors and only guessed three.”
