F1 | Budget Cap, all teams in compliance after the FIA review of the 2022 season
Green light for the teams on last season's accounts, a new Red Bull case averted
F1 FIA Budget Cap 2022 – Despite the rumors circulating before the summer, the FIA Cost Cap Administration has given the teams the green light on the management of costs and budget caps for what concerns the 2022 Formula 1 season. Contrary to what happened last championship with the case of Red Bull, which had the press and experts talking until late autumn, the FIA has not found any inconsistencies between the accounts presented by the teams and the checks carried out by the body that has been responsible for management for three seasons now of the expense cap, effectively giving a green light to the management's economic and managerial work.
Important news, awaited by all those involved in the paddock, which effectively eliminates the possibility of a new dispute in the hands not only of the current President of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, but also of Liberty Media, a American company which has held the commercial rights to F1 for several years. A new "Red Bull" case, in fact, would have undermined the integrity of the expense cap and created a dangerous precedent for all parties involved within the starting grid.
“The examination was an intense and in-depth process, which began with a detailed analysis of the documentation presented by the teams,” reads the official press release which appeared this morning on the website of the International Automobile Federation. Furthermore, a thorough check was carried out of all non-F1 activities undertaken by the teams. An audit that included multiple on-site visits to the teams' facilities and careful control procedures to assess their compliance with the Financial Regulation. The FIA Cost Cap Administration notes that all competitors acted at all times in a spirit of good faith and cooperation throughout the entire process.”
“Financial Regulations are essential for the long-term financial stability of sport,” the statement continues. “They will continue to be developed and refined based on the outcomes of each review process, both in terms of the regulations themselves – which are written and approved as part of the FIA Formula 1 governance process – and in terms of how they are applied and monitored. The FIA has made and will continue to make significant investments in this department for the collective benefit of the sport."
