Interviewed on the introduction of the budget cap, Gunther Steiner did not say he was optimistic about a possible leveling of performances as early as 2021, underlining how the benefits of the expense cap will be seen during the seasons following the revolution.

According to the Haas Team Principal, in fact, the big teams will still have the opportunity to exploit their economic advantage, given that the budget cap, thanks to the pressure of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull, will be placed well above the possibilities of the small teams.

The changes promoted by Liberty Media will certainly lead to a situation different from the current one, but all this will not be enough to level the performances between the top of the table and the teams in the much talked about center of the group, at least in the immediate future.

“There is still time for change,” said Gunther Steiner. “Personally I would like to lower the spending ceiling and make the technical regulations freer. In fact, with a high limit and highly regulated regulations, the best teams would continue to have the right ingredients to dominate. On the contrary, however, there would be greater freedom and the teams would have more opportunities to get closer to the car in the classification”.

On the situation Haas instead added: “Our budget is much smaller than what the limit will be. We will get closer to the leaders, but it will take several years. In any case it is important that there is a spending ceiling and that it is possible to intervene on them in the future".
