The analysis of the first two free practice sessions in Canada

Formula 1 | Ferrari, unusual but positive Friday in Montreal

Friday's Canadian Grand Prix saw limited track time but Scuderia Ferrari still managed to complete much of the work it had planned. In fact, the first session lasted three laps, before it was suspended with the red flag due to Pierre Gasly's stop on the track and then completely canceled due to a blackout linked to the track's CCTV cameras. The race management therefore decided to extend the second session by half an hour, bringing it to 90 minutes to allow teams and drivers to make up for some of the lost time.

77 rpm. Carlos and Charles started the session on the Medium tires with which they had completed the few laps of the opening session and then switched to the Softs to test in the qualifying configuration. Charles achieved 1'14”094, fifth final time, and was unable to improve with a second set of Soft due to the red flag triggered by Esteban Ocon. Carlos, on the other hand, crossed the finish line before the suspension, setting a time of 1'13”844, the third best time. Upon restarting, with the threat of rain looming over the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, both Ferraris were loaded with fuel to run in race configuration with both the Medium and Hard compounds and continue the set-up work. At the end the expected storm actually arrived and so the final laps were done with Intermediate tyres: Carlos completed 39 laps, Charles 38.

Unknown weather. Bad weather is expected in Montreal tomorrow, but the work done today could be useful in the race, for which no rain is currently forecast. The third and final free practice session is scheduled for 12.30pm local time (18.30pm CET) in preparation for qualifying at 16pm (22pm CET).
