Formula 1 | Aston Martin, Stroll's point is a small consolation after Saturday's mistakes

The Aston Martin weekend started with completely different assumptions. Vettel's performances on Friday and Saturday morning had given the Silverstone team hope, with the German even among the fastest on the track. But then the wrong tire pressures in qualifying on both cars, starting almost from the back and a comeback partially managed only by Stroll, able to score a point thanks also to an increasingly competitive car race after race.

“On paper, Lance's tenth position doesn't seem like a great result – said Mike Krack, Aston Martin team principal. It was a difficult weekend, as was the race. He drove patiently, managing an extremely long first stint on hard tires to keep a long train of cars behind him. In the end he broke loose and deserved the final point, helped in part by Sebastian, who kindly stepped aside to allow him to attack Daniel. His race was also positive: starting from the last positions puts everything against you, and the strategy didn't go as we hoped due to the two Virtual Safety Cars, but I think we worked well as a team. The maximum has been achieved after a series of difficult strategic options, with noteworthy pit stops and we return home encouraged by the pace of our car."
