Formula 1 | Alfa Romeo, JJ Lehto pinches Giovinazzi: “There could be some changes”

Interviewed by the Finnish press on the driver situation at Alfa Romeo, JJ Lehto heavily criticized the actions of Antonio Giovinazzi in this first part of the 2019 season, underlining how the Italian is not offering the right help to Kimi Raikkonen with regards to fighting for fourth place in the constructors' championship.

According to what the former driver reported, in fact, Giovinazzi seems to be in a situation of total crisis, an aspect that is strongly penalizing the Italian Scuderia's collection of points. Lehto, precisely in this sense, did not rule out possible drastic decisions by Fred Vasseur in the second half of the championship, especially if the Italian fails to give a strong response to the team over the next few months.

“Kimi Raikkonen is the only one who brings results at the moment”, JJ Lehto told the Iltalehti newspaper. “Giovinazzi seems lost and helpless compared to him, given that all the other mid-table teams can count on a balanced and competitive line-up.”

Lehto, precisely in this sense, did not rule out important changes in the coming months, especially if the Italian continues to struggle in terms of points and performances: “There will definitely be changes at some point. There is a lot of politics behind this speech, but the fact is that Alfa Romeo needs two drivers capable of scoring points and this is not happening at the moment."
