F1 | Vettel on the choice of Ferrari: "There is nothing to understand, Binotto was clear"

Sebastian Vettel returned to talk about the non-renewal with Ferrari, clarifying that at the time he didn't feel much need to understand the reasons that had led Maranello to decide to replace him with Sainz, since very little would have changed.

The German driver never hid his disappointment at team principal Mattia Binotto's decision, despite having enthusiastically embraced the interesting Aston Martin project. The English team itself could be Vettel's last team, who doesn't see himself as an F1 driver at forty years old.

“To be honest, I don't feel the need to understand Ferrari's decision because it wouldn't really change anything. Okay, I completely accept it now. When Binotto told me their choice on the phone it was quite clear. That's why I didn't rest or try to change his mind – Sebastian said in an interview with Racer.com – I always think that when one door closes another opens. At the time my doubts were more about the desire to stay in F1, but in the end I decided to embrace the Aston Martin project. I also have to take into account that I don't see myself in Formula 1 at forty. I still have a few years to go, but not another ten. At some point you start thinking about what you'll do next, but it's not the time to think about that yet."
