F1 | Vettel on his first day at Ferrari: “I was excited, I will never forget it”
On 29 November 2014 the German began his professional experience with the Red Team
Last November 29th exactly six years passed from the first day spent as a Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel. In fact, the German tested the F2012 on the Fiorano track, on a gloomy autumn day, thus becoming familiar with the reality of Maranello. The four-time world champion, who has never left anything to chance, for the occasion showed off a special white helmet with the words "29.11.14 my first day in Ferrari".
"I was excited, but also focused on the intense program – Vettel declared to Corriere della Sera, recalling those moments – I had already been there with Toro Rosso, but with Ferrari everything changes. I'll never forget it”. Seb, who will end his experience at Ferrari at the end of the year to join Aston Martin, revealed a background story: “Marchione told me on the phone: 'Why don't we build something together, would you like to help us bring Ferrari back to victory? ' I told him yes".
Then speaking about the environment he found in Maranello he added: “There was so much hope. From me too. Since childhood, the Prancing Horse was a myth thanks to Michael's legacy (Schumacher, ed.)”.
Vettel's experience with the Red was characterized by ups and downs, failing to turn that only cherished world championship dream into reality. The German is preparing to say goodbye to Ferrari with 14 victories under his belt which make him the third most successful driver in the history of the Cavallino behind two sacred monsters such as Michael Schumacher (72) and Niki Lauda (15). Speaking about his numbers he said: “Not bad, but the balance sheet could have been richer: 14 is just a number, it doesn't matter".
