F1 | Toro Rosso, Franz Tost: “We thought we could take some points”

Not an exciting weekend for Toro Rosso in Singapore. Gasly and Hartley were unable to do better than thirteenth and eighteenth place respectively. There was optimism in the Red Bull junior team ahead of the Asian weekend, but expectations were not confirmed.

“We were quite optimistic, we thought we could take some points – declares a disappointed Franz Tost, team principal of Toro Rosso – because in past years we have been competitive on this track. However, we didn't have the pace to finish in the top 10, so we need to understand why we didn't have the performance we expected and what we need to change to improve in the next races. Pierre made a good start and managed to gain a couple of positions, defending well until the pit stop; Brendon gained a position and managed to avoid the accident at turn 3. At the beginning we thought we could get Pierre closer to the top 10, but the further we went the less chance we had of grabbing a position in the points”.
