F1 | The perfectionist Waché: Red Bull has everything, there are no excuses for defeats

In Red Bull there is no room for defeats. It was reported Pierre Waché, with the technical director of the Anglo-Austrian team admitting that a team of the caliber of Milton Keynes has all the resources to always aspire to excel. At the same time, however, Waché underlined how the difficulties of Sergio Perez, protagonist of a very fluctuating championship where he made several errors which however did not deprive him of second place in the Drivers' World Championship, are perhaps attributable to Red Bull itself which was unable to to let his standard bearer express himself as he should have.

2023 was a magical year for Red Bull which literally monopolized the Formula 1 scene, achieving an impressive 21 victories in 22 races. Incredible numbers which led the team from Milton Keynes and Max Verstappen to close the world championship proceedings well in advance, leaving only crumbs to the competition. Red Bull has in fact failed to win on only one occasion this year, in the Singapore Grand Prix where Ferrari with Carlos Sainz took the top step of the podium.

“At Red Bull we have practically all the resources and therefore there are no excuses for defeats. At least for me – declared Waché, interviewed by the Dutch magazine Formule 1 – I am a perfectionist. The technicians are strict. At our level the important thing is not the perfection that is never achieved, but the attention to detail. Because this is how we make a difference. In our profession, a car that is 1% slower is a bad car, and that's bizarre when you think about it.”

Waché then added: “A fast car is a car that allows the driver to give his all. We failed in this sense because only one rider, Max in this case, managed the situation well. This is Max's talent, who managed to use the car well throughout the season and in different conditions. On the other hand, as far as we are concerned we may not have fully understood what Checo needed to exploit the potential of the RB19”.
