F1 Test | Alfa Romeo, Ilott violently blocked: "Mortified, I feel I have let the team down"

Very difficult day for Callum Ilott riding for Alfa Romeo Racing. During his first adventure with a Formula 1 car, the twenty-year-old Briton lost control of the C38 in turn 3, destroying a large part of the car and ending the day prematurely. The car is currently under the "care" of the mechanics, who will have to work hard during the night to allow Kimi Raikkonen to take to the track tomorrow for the second day of testing. The driver is still fine, but is obviously disappointed: for the record, he finished in twelfth and penultimate position with a time of 1:19.819.

“I am mortified for myself and for Alfa Romeo Racing, naturally I feel I have let the team down – said Callum Ilott. Until the accident things were going pretty well and I was enjoying finishing the planned schedule. The difference between a Formula 1 car and a Formula 2 car is incredible, especially when going at high speed and in terms of grip. I felt comfortable with the car and could improve my performance lap after lap, but then in turn 3 I lost control. It's not exactly the way I thought of making my debut in a Formula 1 car. It was still a great experience and I'm very grateful to Alfa Romeo Racing for giving me this opportunity."
