F1 Tests 2018 | Renault, Sainz: “We have made good progress in understanding the car”

Chiaroscuro day for the Renault in Barcelona: in the morning Nico Hulkenberg was limited by problems found in the new RS18 chassis, while Carlos Sainz in the afternoon he completed almost twice as many laps as his teammate, improving his feeling with the car. The German ranked 7th, +1.036 away from the top; the Spaniard, however, placed 8th, just +0.023 behind his teammate.

Nico Hulkenberg: (7th place – 1:21.432, +1.036 – 49 laps): “There's not much to say about my morning run. We completed 49 laps, but we had some problems with this chassis on its first outing; no big drama, at least everything was sorted out pretty quickly. I'm hoping for a decent race tomorrow afternoon.".

Carlos Sainz (8th place – 1:21.455, +1.059 – 91 laps): “We completed many laps in the afternoon and made good progress in understanding the car, despite the wind which at times made things very difficult for us. However, it's still very early as far as setup goes, as today was the first correct run since last week. Personally, I felt good in the car and it was nice to get some decent laps under my belt. I'm looking forward to working with the team on some different areas tomorrow morning - I'm confident we can make further improvements.".
