F1 | Spanish GP Report Cards – Hamilton The Hammer hammers, Ferrari doesn't spin the tires (what a case!)
Grosjean takes away his license, Raikkonen is in a dark mood, The Hammer wins and Ferrari is wasteful. But the tires?
In Spain it's always a bit of a hunt for confirmations, forecasts for the rest of the season, updates for the future. The 2018 GP (score 7) showed three great faces: the undisputed power of Hamilton and Mercedes, the "sudden" flop of Ferrari which goes hand in hand with bad luck, and many bad mistakes... useless and dangerous in the mid-lower rankings.
lewis hamilton 9,5 The Hammer is back. He made himself felt as early as free practice, conquering a super pole position, lapping at track records and braiding his hair. He extends his streak of consecutive races with points to 30, becomes the first driver ever to do so, and wins for the 64th time in his career. He surpasses Michael Schumacher by scoring the highest number of pole victories in GPs at 41. He is half a point missing, because perhaps - just perhaps - these tires gave a little extra push. POUNDING
Valtteri Bottas 8 He risks – so to speak – taking pole position by mocking his teammate and in the end closes the Mercedes one-two. But he gets fooled from the start. AT TIMES, WHEN YOU WANT
Max Verstappen 7,5 First podium of the season, the 12th of his career. He does a “Verstappenata” under VSC regime but takes home an important third place also for his mood.
Sebastian Vettel 7 Many doubts, many uncertainties, some errors, little competitiveness and performance below expectations. Excellent job qualifying and starting. THE TASK
Daniel Riccardo 6,5 He asks his team to pass Verstappen because he was faster, then arrives behind him and far away. The team doesn't support him, even though he is the better of the two. INCOMPREHENSIBLE
Kevin Magnussen7,5 Great points, great performance. He brings all the strength of the Haas into play and makes his strength count compared to Grosjean who combines a really huge one. WORTH
Carlos Sainz 8 He was as excited as a child in front of an ice cream: his Spain gives him the right energy to do well. Renault increasingly growing.
Fernando Alonso 7 He did the rain dance to bring out his best, but in the end he can be satisfied with what he achieved in his home GP. Kind heart to the little fan who enters the paddock and does a bit of publicity for his personal sponsor with the cap. CERTAINTY AND SMARTNESS
Sergio Perez 6 Luckier than his partner, but Force India doesn't shine. On the contrary.
Charles Leclerc 8 Big applause again for his strength and ability to manage a Formula 1 like this at 20 years old. FIXED SURPRISE
Lance Stroll 5 Limit the damage. But he's driving an embarrassing Williams, it doesn't deserve further comment
Brendon Hartley 5,5 Lastly, he has the brilliant intuition of remaining firm in the face of Grosjean's accident. For the rest…
Others: Sirotkin 4, Vandoorne 5, Ocon 5, Raikkonen 5, Gasly 7, Hulkenberg 5.
Special mention: Romain Grosjean, vote -10
