F1 | Red Bull, Perez: “I want to finish second in the world championship”
Perez is particularly keen to win the challenge with Leclerc for second place in the world championship
The Red Bull dream is to make it one-two in the drivers' standings, with Sergio Perez vice world champion behind Max Verstappen. And the Mexican - two victories under his belt, in Monte Carlo and Singapore - is particularly keen to win the challenge with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc for second place in the Drivers' standings.
In Mexico Checo Perez, third at the finish line while Leclerc couldn't do better than sixth, regained second place in the standings and now has a five-point advantage over the Monegasque, with two races to go. For Perez, beating Leclerc would also be a response to the many criticisms received for the performance gap with his phenomenal teammate.
Furthermore, on several occasions, Max has implied that it is enough for Perez to finish ahead of Leclerc in the race, without needing to win at all costs. Helping yes, but the Dutch cannibal is unlikely to give up any victory to his boxing colleague. Perez, however, feels he has all it takes to win already in Brazil.
“There are still two races left and I feel like I'm capable of winning - Perez's words reported by GPFans.com, with the rider speaking of his desire to finish second in the world championship - As a team we are already champions, but both for them and for me personally it would be extremely important to do a double in the Drivers' standings. I have to stay motivated and focused and get the best possible result starting from the Sprint Race in Brazil which is a further opportunity to move up in the standings. I want to do everything well to make sure we maintain our lead in the standings, we are the best team and we can do it."
