F1 | Palmer praises Sainz: “He can become a top-level driver”

After two satisfactory seasons at McLaren, Carlos Sainz joined Ferrari last year, achieving decent results and, against all expectations, managed to beat his teammate, Charles Leclerc, in the world rankings.

Former Formula 1 driver Jolyon Palmer sees potential in the Spaniard and believes he could become a top driver in his own right:

“The fact that Sainz and Norris have improved a lot shows that they were probably underestimated as McLaren teammates, at least by me”, writes the Briton in the blog on the official F1 website.

“Sainz had a fantastic season at Ferrari, culminating in a podium in Abu Dhabi. He was the best driver in the middle of the group and managed to get the better of his teammate, Leclerc. Like many riders who change teams, he started slowly but then over the course of the season he was fast and improved a lot. When Ferrari signed him, everyone thought he would be number 2 but perhaps now we need to reevaluate him. He has shown that he has the potential to become a top-level rider."
