F1 | Newey cautious: “We won't always be as competitive as in Bahrain”

In a long chat given to the columns of Sky Sports, Adrian Newey analyzed the performance shown by Red Bull in the last Bahrain Grand Prix, the opening round of the 2023 Formula 1 season, specifying how the characteristics of the Sakhir circuit helped the RB19 to emerge in direct comparison with Mercedes, Ferrari and Aston Martin.

In the same way, however, the English engineer wanted to take precautions in view of the next races, specifying how the balance in play between the top teams could vary from track to track (in Jeddah, for example, everyone expects a much more close to the level expressed by Red Bull).

“We won't be this strong every weekend of the championship,” said the Technical Director of the Anglo-Austrian team. “Also because in Bahrain – at least within the team – not everything went as smoothly as everyone believes. Furthermore, if we go back 12 months, Ferrari was able to dominate the Grand Prix in Bahrain with a one-two, while we ended the weekend with a double retirement. All this confirms to us how things can change very quickly."
