F1 | Mercedes, Toto Wolff: “McLaren-Renault? We must not underestimate anyone."
"The rules have not changed, next season could be a very competitive season for them", the Austrian manager thought
With the conclusion of the 2017 season the curtain also fell on the partnerships between McLaren and Honda. A partnership which, compared to past glories, has not yielded the desired results given the continuous reliability problems that have decimated the Woking single-seaters in the last three years.
From next year, McLaren will be equipped with Renault engines, which should guarantee (at least on paper) a return of the British team among the top positions. As highlighted by Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, in an interview given to formula1.com.
"We must not underestimate anyone – said the Austrian manager of the Star – To date our rivals are Ferrari and Red Bull. However, I am curious to see what McLaren will do paired with Renault. The rules have not changed and therefore next season could be a very competitive season for them".
"I believe we will see a battle between Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull. Perhaps McLaren-Renault could also join the championship fight. This would definitely be positive news for enthusiasts”, concluded Wolff.
