F1 | Mercedes, Lauda asks for a reaction: "Ferrari and Renault have surpassed us in our strong points"

Visibly disappointed at the end of the last Canadian Grand Prix, Niki Lauda analyzed the performances shown by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas in Montreal, underlining how Mercedes needs a clear change from a technical point of view.

Ferrari and Renault, in fact, presented two extremely important evolutionary packages, with the Maranello team finally managing to resolve the problem of fuel consumption, a real sore point in the first part of the season. A factor that proved to be successful and which allowed Vettel to dominate a weekend which, at least on paper, should have favored the two W09 EQ-Power+.

According to Lauda, Mercedes will have to immediately take action, presenting at Le Castellet an evolutionary package capable of closing the gap that seems to have opened after the last world event in America.

Here are the words of Niki Lauda: “The SF71H showcased the best performing engine and best fuel consumption. Precisely in these areas we were the absolute point of reference, but now things seem to have changed. Ferrari and Renault overtook us in the areas where we were ahead. Something will definitely have to change."

On France he added: “It's difficult to make predictions as the levels are very similar. We will have the new engine and this should certainly help us, but we will only find out everything in Le Castellet."
