F1 | Mercedes, Allison: “We believe we have solved our problems”

Among the teams looking for redemption in the new season is without a shadow of a doubt Mercedes. The Brackley team ended a 2023 season without any victories in which Red Bull was the undisputed leader, with the Anglo-Austrian team monopolizing the scene with 21 successes in 22 events. The only empty joke occurred in Singapore, where Ferrari with Carlos Sainz was the one to celebrate. Despite the lack of victories, Mercedes managed to gain the upper hand in the fight with Maranello, securing second place in the Constructors' Championship and third place with Lewis Hamilton in the Drivers' Championship.

Mercedes, through the mouth of the team principal Toto wolff, admitted that the 2024 project will be completely different from the previous one: an upheaval due to the technical gaps revealed on the track by the W14. James allison, which recently renewed its long-term contract with Stella, underlined what the improvements made on the new car by the German team will involve.

“Apprehension, excitement and fear: these are always the emotions you feel at this time of year – said Allison, as reported by Formula1.com – I imagine that even at Red Bull, after a year of good performances, they will not sleep peacefully in their read because no one knows what the others will bring. We hope that the worst characteristics of the rear area of the car can become a strong point and that the car's handling can improve. That's what the simulator tells us, but we have reasonable reason to believe we've made some gains."

Allison then, continuing with his speech, added: “In addition to this there are the normal cleaning operations, to lose weight and make the vehicle more 'deportant'. Time will tell if this is enough, but it will still be interesting because we saw some things that we knew caused problems. We hypothesized what was the reason for these problems and solved them. It will be interesting to find out how accurate we were with that diagnosis."
