F1 | McLaren, Sainz in sixth place in the world championship: "I'm very happy"

A truly positive season ends for McLaren, fourth in the constructors' championship and with a podium to its credit, a result that had been missing for over five years. Sainz and Norris performed great, and also finished in the points in the last round in Abu Dhabi: the Spaniard thus achieved sixth place in the drivers' standings, and Norris managed to finish in eighth position at Yas Marina, with the only flaw was the overtaking suffered by Perez at the end.

“It was a good race after a good start – Norris said. I struggled a bit and made a mistake at the end of my stint on the Softs, I had a big lock up and that's why I stopped early, but overall I think I did a great job with the tyres. Good battles and lots of overtaking, the only mistake I made was at the end with Perez when he overtook me. It's been a long season, I'm happy: we improved and I enjoyed it. As a team we did a great job, thanks to the whole team for making my first season in Formula 1 so great!”.

"I'm very happy - admits Sainz! The goal was to finish in sixth position in the drivers' championship and we did it! It wasn't an easy race, and starting on the Softs isn't the best. We went to two stops, I knew it would make it difficult to finish in the top ten, but it was my only chance. I managed to catch Hulkenberg and overtake him on the last lap, I won't forget it! I am happy with my season, I sincerely thank every single member of the team."
