F1 | McLaren, Piastri: “Huge step compared to the start of the season”
"A fantastic result, we have to maintain our positions tomorrow too," underlined the Australian
At Silverstone, on the home track, the McLaren it rediscovers itself as great. On the home route of the British Grand Prix the Woking team managed to get the second and third time behind the Red Bull of poleman Max Verstappen. The quality of the package of updates fitted to the English car also gave the desired results Oscar piastri, with the young Australian driver starting from the second row ahead of Charles Leclerc's Ferrari.
“I'm very happy – declared Piastri at the end of qualifying – In Q1 I was almost out, but then the car was very fast in Q2 and Q3 and I managed to put together a good lap. A fantastic result for the team, constantly being at the front is exceptional but we must try to maintain this position tomorrow too."
Piastri: “Yesterday was a difficult day, we were faster than we showed. We struggled to get the car into the right window. In this sense we did a better job today and these conditions suit us a lot. This situation happened in Monte Carlo and Canada. We had a few scares, but then in Q3 we put together a great lap and achieved an exceptional result. The updates are working, I can't stop thanking the team enough for keeping pushing. If we think about where we were at the beginning of the season and where we are now it's a huge step."
