F1 | McLaren, Hasegawa: “The best opportunity at the end of the season in Austin”
The Honda engine manager aims to make up for the disappointment of Suzuka: "Our package can do well"
A discreet confidence hovers in the environment McLaren in sight of the neighbor United States Grand Prix in Austin. On American soil, the Woking team will have to redeem the double zero of Suzuka and obtain those points necessary to decently conclude a season, the third in a row, stingy with emotions: “In our last home race as McLaren-Honda, we didn't get the results we hoped for, but despite missing out on points, we were encouraged by our competitiveness.” - he has declared Yusuke Yasegawa, responsible for the engineers Honda. “Austin is different, it's a technical track with a lot of variations; includes heavy braking, a series of corners similar to Silverstone and other slow corners. We think the track is good for our package and we believe it can deliver for us the best opportunity of the last four rounds".
With four races left in the season, McLaren is tied to the 9 th in the constructors' championship with only 23 points under its belt and a gap compared to the 8th place occupied by Renault by 19 lengths. In the drivers' standings, however, Stoffel vandoorne, with 13 points, precedes his teammate by three points Fernando Alonso.
