F1 | McLaren, Alonso opens up to a possible farewell: “Future in Formula 1? I do not know"
“The most important thing is to have fun and feel useful,” he added
In an interview given to Cadena Cope radio, Fernando Alonso opened up about a sensational farewell to Formula One at the end of this championship, underlining how a final decision will only come at the end of this summer. According to the Spaniard, in fact, his career in the Circus has reached a sort of deadlock and he does not want to find himself in the position of having very little motivation for the future, a factor that would inevitably lead him towards retirement. So new challenges come into play, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, won a few weeks ago with Toyota, and the much dreamed of Indy500, a race that could establish him among the greatest of all time.
Here are the words of Fernando Alonso: “I don't know if I will continue in Formula One next year. It's a decision that I will have to make sooner or later, but nothing has been decided or planned yet."
“I just know that I don't want to end my career with a bad taste in my mouth, that is, to enter an era where I can't give 110%”, he continued. “I don't know if this will happen next year or in several years, but I want to choose the right path. The most important thing is to have fun and feel useful, contributing something to the car or the team."
“If I lose these motivations it will be difficult to continue and there are other interesting challenges for the future: the triple crown and the Indy 500 for example. When the summer is over I will contemplate all options and make the best decision for the good of the team and the fans."he concluded.
